My name is Mace Mooney.

I am an artist, dreamer, and practicing psychotherapist in WA state.

Originally working as an early childhood educator I developed a deep curiosity in the emotional lives of children, the experience of becoming human in a social world, and the impact that has into adulthood.

Pursuing this spark I graduated with my Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School, a small relational and psychodynamic school in Belltown. I’ve continued my passion for the emotional worlds of children and adults working as a part-time play therapist for Jumping Mouse Children’s Center, where I see children ages 3-11 using a child-centered, deep listening play full approach.

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in WA state (MC61449263) I also love working with adolescents and adults. My experience with young children has developed in me a rich respect for the task of becoming human, and the ways our early experiences shape so much of our present lives. I meet with patients from my virtual office through secure video calling using a mix of approaches from psychodynamic to expressive arts depending on the individual’s needs and wants.

  • Free association encourages patients to express their thoughts and feelings without censorship or judgment. It involves allowing the mind to wander and speaking whatever comes to mind, no matter how trivial, irrational, or disconnected it may seem. This process helps uncover unconscious thoughts, memories, and conflicts that may be influencing a person's behavior or emotional state.

  • Dream analysis is a helpful tool used in therapy to understand a person's deepest thoughts and feelings. By studying the content and symbols in dreams, we can uncover hidden meanings and provide insight into your inner world. This helps explore unresolved issues and fears that may affect daily life. It also reveals patterns and potential solutions to personal problems. Through this process, individuals become more self-aware, grow personally, and connect their conscious and unconscious selves.

  • Play therapy recognizes that children (and often adults) naturally use play as a means of self-expression and exploration. Through this process, you can work through a range of difficulties, such as trauma, anxiety, or challenging behaviors, as they engage in imaginative and symbolic play. Play therapy not only empowers you to gain insight into your emotions and experiences but also fosters your capacity to grow, change, and come alive.

  • By emphasizing the immediate experience, including body sensations and emotions, you can gain insight into your patterns of behavior and better understand how past experiences influence your current life. Here and now therapy creates a safe space for you to explore and process emotions in real-time, leading to increased self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, and a deeper understanding of yourself.
